038 Rearranging the furniture, so to speak
Your closet already holds the key to the best fall looks
I’m not buying any new clothes for the rest of the year…
That’s a bold and terrifying statement to make as someone that lives for the hunt when it comes to shopping. The truth is, most of what I’m seeing right now feels redundant and easy to replicate with items I already own.
We probably all own too much. The older I get, the more I want less. Waking into my closet, grabbing 3 items, and looking chic in less than five minutes is the goal everyday. I’m getting there, and forgoing fall purchasing is a good start.
Sound appealing? These non-negotiable outfit starters get you back into your closet looking at the potential that already exists. I feel certain you have some version of these items in your closet already.
1. Flat Shoe- Whether you go for something classic, feminine, chunky, or just comfortable, you want a flat style dress shoe this fall.
2. Straight jean/trouser- The straight silhouette is the one I reach for most. I really like a faded jean topped with a blazer or a navy trouser. Reliably, they make an excellent combo with 80% of everything else in my closet.
3. Suede/Leather- Some of my favorite looks to come off the Fall ‘23 runways involved leather & suede. Both can take elevate even the most basic parings. But this isn’t a new look- we’ve seen lots of suede now for a few seasons. Everyone has a leather jacket in the back of the closet somewhere. Break out your vintage style and make it new again.
4. Blazer- Until we get into the really chilly temps, a blazer is the only outerwear you’ll wear consistently. Whether you like double breasted or single button, wear it out, wear it to work, wear it freakin everywhere. I’ve never met a blazer that didn’t make the person wearing it look like they had their act together.
5. Stripe shirt- I’m partial to blue in a variety of widths, but if there’s a red or yellow mulling about in the closet, you win.
Lastly, If you’re going to buy one thing, make it a fresh white tee. I like lots of brands (Buck Mason, Rag & Bone, Iris & Ink) but do yourself a favor, forgo a latte one morning & buy this $6 Hanes beauty instead. It’s a winner.
xo,
